    Are our politicians wowsers?

What the hell is going on? X rated films are sold in sex shops around the world in Europe & the conservative US. The Kiwis sell them & even the Poms are allowed to sell them. Why can't they be sold legally in Australia? What a joke! We supposedly live in a democratic society but what's happening to censorship? Does the OFLC & the government impose their own small minded views on the censorship of X rated films in Australia or are they objective like they should be? My guess is that they've allowed the vocal minority religious lobby groups & manipulative senators like Harradine with their own agendas to influence their decisions. These groups & the likes of Harradine are clearly out of touch with the average Australian's attitudes. It's about time the government & the OFLC listened to the majority of Australians!

Its not about accurately representing the views and desires of Australian adults but more about securing an MP's term in in office and career path.  As its a topic that attracts emotion and flak, it is better to play it safe and be a wowser pollie than stick your head out and be openly bagged by the opposition, media and family groups. Sadly it mirrors the current generation of spineless self interested community representatives known as MP's.

That's exactly what has happened, is happening and seems will always happen.

For God's sake I thought this was a democracy!!

in what fantasy land are you dwelling if you believe that ANY politician is serving any other purpose than that of their own otherwise we would not be supporting industries that are contributing to the demise of humanity so they can make a few bucks in the here and now...........pity that the Australian Voting public seems to care about as much as the government do.

Wowsers?  I am sure there are hundreds of more acurate and much more fashionable superaltives that could be applied in description of our politicians - and they will also compliment your beer.

    Re: Are our politicians wowsers?

Politicans are always scared. Scared to do something that might give them the tag as being anti family. Scared to stand up and say "yes I am an adult and i enjoy watching adult movies."

And then you get the family first types who are so out of step with reality it's just not funny. It scares me that people like that are gaining political power in our country!

    Re: Are our politicians wowsers?

as you probably know i have in the past voted against porn however  what you dont know is that i really only did it to save my pension and super fund as all my voters are bits of wowsers so i did have to toe the line and having a pile of  kids its obvious i like to have sex probably more than most..so while it may appear we are wowsers and afraid its actually just hedging our financial future and toeing the company line and as my wife now says ...up the bum and no more kids

    cheers

Whats happening in Shepperton? Am I right in assuming that some one wants to open a legitimate business, pay their taxes and employ staff, and is being knocked back because it will sell adult products? I mean really come on! It's crazy that this happens!

I think you are exactly right. Who's going to stand up and say "Yes, I'm for sex, sex film should be sold..." I can't see it happening. Conservative forces are much better at rallying and lobbying than sex positive folk.

    Re: Are our politicians wowsers?

It's almost accepted that MP's might be involved in shady dealings but I can almost guarentee that if a MP stood up in Parliment and said "I believ that Australian Adults should have the right to purchase adult movies in their own state" They would be shot down in flames. Regardless of the fact that most of our politicans are sexually active people themselves and would more than likely have a good collection of adult movies at home! These are the people we vote for! I am really thinking of phoning up my local MP's electoral office and asking what is their stand on this very issue. Does anyone think I would get a reply or possibly, just silence?

Yeah, the nonsense in Sheparton is incredible; I just read about it recently. Sadly it is no longer surprising to hear about this sort of thing - vocal minority religious groups wielding their big stick of self-proclaimed moral superiority. It scares me that this sort of thing is still going on, but I suspect it will get a lot worse in years to come, unless the REAL "silent majority" let our politicians know - in unambiguous terms - that we have had enough of their pandering to Christian extremists.

Interesting that when prominent Muslim "leaders" say stupid things they are labeled sexist, "un-Australian" or "terrorists", but when Christians behave in equally idiotic ways thy are "defending family values"...
