Yet again we see the OFLC refusing to budge on whether or not they should do their job. Meanwhile movie piraters and video nasty producers continue to enjoy the inertia. The OFLC are required by law to apply regulations that reflect current community standards. The recent AC Nielson poll clearly shows that current community standards are in favour of new regulations. So what's to debate? More relaxed attitudes towards sex and stiffer controls on violence please. The message is clear enough. If the OFLC are unable or unwilling to do their job they should simply be replaced.

Interesting suggestion, Spencer. Perhaps the OFLC as an organisation isn't effective as you say. I saw in the paper that this is going to the federal court. If the legal debate finds in favour of this film becoming R and all the arguments being presented are taken to be an accurate reflection of the current situation at the OFLC, then it will be very interesting to see how they deal with it going forward. Will they simply adopt the new approach to classification in Australia? I wonder...

It is disappointing that the OLFC came back with the result they did. From what I read the evidence was rather straight forward. 70% of adults don't find adult movies offensive. How much more evidence do they require?

I have no faith in their processes of public consultation to gauge community attitudes.

u can't expect the government to sit the kids and watch what they are viewing, the freaking parents responsibilities.

jesus, no sharp corners, must be neat and easy to consume , no frighting images or disturbing elements oh no god forbid that should happen.

Like you Ell, I have little faith that the OLFC do consult the genral public before making their decision. Their suggestion that Viva Erotica would have provoked different responses to wether adults find sex offensive is quite laughable. It's very disappointing that the OLFC were more interested in towing the conservative party line than actually doing the right thing.
