Don't people understand that all pornography objectifies  women and is utterly demeaning to them? These films are sickening and I can't understand why anyone would want to watch them.

I don't think porn ojectifies women. From the couple of films I've watched its the girls that seem to have the upper hand and are positioned to look like they have control of the situation and are superior to the fellas.

If anything, the films I've seen could be said to objectify men as its all about the size of their appendage that sees them lucky with the ladies.

Porn doesn't objectify women, it simply shows people having sex which is something well all do, and must do for the species to continue!!

 

Sure the sex acts may sometimes be more than what you or I would engage in, but that's part of what makes it entertaining.

Why do you find it entertaining to watch people faking sex CFL?  Isn't sex a wonderful private thing, not something we should make money out of,  faking it for the voyeuristic pleaure of others.  Isn't such a personal and exciting thing something which is ruined by being bought and sold?   Surely selling plastic sex objectifies both men and women.

What difference is the legitimate availability of erotic films going to make to you and your private sex life? Or anyone's for that matter. I don't understand how any of this is going to impact on people who CHOOSE not to watch the films. The only people who will experience any impact are the people who do enjoy erotic films.

As for the question of why these films should be made and sold in the first place, well, it is like any form of entertainment. There is a large demand for the pleasure/escapism/fantasy etc that can be experienced from watching such films. The same can be said for a war film or a comedy. People enjoy watching other people's experiences - be they positive or negative, realistic or utterly frivolous. I'd consider most erotic films to be utterly frivolous - so what!?!?! That's what makes them entertainment and often funny!

i think Anna has a point here, we watch comedies to laugh, drama's to make us cry (if it's any good) a thriller to make us sit on the edge of our seat, and become involved in what's happening on the screen. We watch erotica to enjoy it for what it is, nothing more.

I think of course porn objectifies people, we objectify them every day. A person on a page or a TV ad or on TV to some extent is not a person, they are simply a hot piece of *** to hang some bikini, watch or pair of jocks on. They are simply there to promote a product sometimes or to entertain us. Porn is NO different.

 

Both men AND women are objectified by porn, I don't watch porn to see your average person on tape, I don't think many would. Women want to see good looking guys (or girls) and men want to see good looking girls (or guys) it's just the way it is.

 

I don't think it's an issue. If you want to talk about objectifying then dont' just point the finger at porn ;)

You think? The movies I've seen show the woman in complete control. Nothing happens unless she makes it happen. Meanwhile, top level porn starlets are positively idolised! They're cherished and adored - I don't see where you're coming from Lady Jane.

Have you actually watched one of these films Durgan? The sex is not fake and it is quite entertaining. It is arousing and can also be quite beneficial for those couples who sometimes experience problems in the bedroom (be it medical or other).

And no-one is saying that sex between two people who love each other is not a wonderful thing. We are saying that we as adults should have the right to choose to watch films of people having sex for our own self pleasure and to enrich our own sex lives. 

 

You ovbiously have a major issue with sexually explicit films and as a results you wouldn't watch them. That's fine. Why then do you have a problem if other people want to watch them?

 

Good point Nicko! Of course if Durgan doesn't want to watch, he can simply choose not to. Us more open minded adults should have the right to watch adult movies if we so desire! It's all a matter of choice! Which right now we don't have.
