18.10.06 - Porn Up, Rape Down: study

A study by the Northwestern University School of Law indicates that whilst access to pornography over the past 25 years has become more freely available, the incidence of rape in the United States has declined by 85%.

Whilst the Nixon and Reagan Commissions tried to show that exposure to pornographic materials produced social violence, the reverse may actually be true: that pornography has reduced social violence.

Very buzzy paper but it could be true.

I'd suggest another reason for the reduction in rape rates is the increased ability to apprehend and increase likelihood of apprehension too due to women being increasingly believed in these cases. These are victimisation rates not conviction rates.
